vintage musings: Catherine Spaak

Catherine Spaak. Probably my best unknown muse. She’s been such a huge inspiration for me. She is cool, cute, sexy, classy, innocent, mysterious… All in one not so outstanding package. I mean, that is what I love about her, how subtle all those qualities come across. She is no sex bomb and she is no girl next door, she is something in between; something… almost normal and still almost iconic. A sexy kitten.

From a Belgium family, born in France, Catherine made a carrier in Italy. Actress, singer, model, wife, mother. Everything happened to her in her teens. What a busy and intense time that must have been. I believe little is known of her outside Italy/France and I feel her films are hard to find (oh yeah, forget about subtitles, lucky for me I understand about 70% italian, hihi).

For the past 2 years when Winter is near I get lost in Goroke’s website, wishing I would own all their clothes. They are so cute and cosy looking, I want to spend all winter inside of them! But then I remember the rest of my wardrobe and think “hmm, how would I fit this in with all my other vintage clothes?”, so I never purchased anything, I just stalk their website… 

Autumn

 

 

 

 

Autumn is my favourite season. I love the golden and orange tones on the trees, it inspires me to wear such colours myself. Which in turn leads me to a more 70s vibe and I enjoy it!
I was yet to post photos of the area we live in, and what a better time to start than Autumn? It looks beautiful around here.
I might even take pictures of the cemetery for Halloween. At the moment I am reading “The Shining” to get in the mood for the season, and again, I’m feeling the 70s vibe getting to me.

Summer a la Parisienne style 40s & 50s

As the weather is gradually improving here in London, I turned to my favourite photography website, parisen images, for some real Parisian late 1940s early 1950s inspiration.

 

How to decorate your house vintage style

 

A few 50’s interior illustrations for inspiration. I have been collecting these through time, so I haven’t got the source, just be sure credit does not belong to me. In my dreams, I would have a pink bathroom and a baby blue kitchen, a moss green living room and… I haven’t decided on the bedroom colour yet! If I had an office it would be red though.

There’s a few bits and pieces that I add to the flat where I live, a record player, a few analogue cameras, old magazines, vintage reprints, a nice lamp, etc. However, since we always live in rented places I cannot just go and paint the kitchen cabinets or buy much of my own furniture. And the time to move out and find a new nest has come once again. Our landlord is selling the place and we need to move out by the end of April. It is good news in a way that we might be able to find something better, but it is so time consuming to search for a new flat and then comes the dreadful moving day!

How wonderful it would be if we found something like a one of the pictures above for a reasonable price! Fingers crossed!!

I like to check tokyofashion.com snaps from time to time. These are some I've saved over time, my favorite, so to say. I'm still at a age where I don't know which style suits me best or I can call my own, therefore I like to try different styles and I think that show in these pics I chose, haha. I like vintage, I like sweet and cute, I like grunge, etc... Of course I don't mean that everyone must be defined by one style only, but I do hope some day I will find the one for me, the one style I feel confortable in as my onw skin. Until then, I'll keep on trying.
